Drakes & Hawkes

Through regular meetings, special events, day trips, camps and holidays, Drakes learn new hobbies, explore other activities and get adventurous outdoors. They can also extend their knowledge and abilities by working towards and earning interest certificates covering many different activities from sign language to seamanship skills.


When you become a Drake, you become a member of a team, you make new friends and follow a fun and rewarding programe which is full of fun, activities and designed to be interesting, practical and challenging. Drakes learn about themselves and others, health and hygiene, maritime skills and games and much more.

Whats more exciting than trying new things, going to new places, having new experiences and learning along the way.


Drakes take part in a lot of the same activities as our cadets, however, it is at a reduced klevel suitable to theri age range. but dont be deceived, as a drake you will still learn how to make feather sticks, lay and light fires. 


you will take part in baking, model building, map reading and day walks to name but a few areas. you will go on bug hunts and learn how to identify lots of different things in nature as well as taking part in parades and community activities.

Parades & Ceremonial

You will learn how to march and be part of a team. This important subject allows you to gain a better understanding of how you fit in and operate as part of a team. 

It is also excellent for teaching self-discipline and for developing a sense of pride

Bushcraft

You will not only feel amazing from being outdoors and at one with nature. you will learn the safety and basics of fire lays and how to light a fire.


how to erect a shelter to protect you from the weather and cook smores on an open fire.

Craft & Create

Throught the planned programme for Drakes and Hawkes there are lost of tasks where you will need to be creative.


not only will you have to come up with an idea but create it too. such as making a puppet or amodel boat that will be floated on a local inland water way.

Nature Detective

Through a number of exciting activities and visits to local woodlands, parks and canals you will learn to investigate identify and track a wide range of plants, trees, insects, birds and wild animals making you a true nature detective.

First Aid

First aid is an important part of the cadet syllabus, and Drakes & Hawkes are no different so you will have the opportunity to take part in different levels of first aid training.


starting with the bsics of what to do in an emergency situation and how to contact the emergency services. the principles and skills you learn here will stay with you for life.
