Vikings - The warriors of the Sea

Based on the principles of the Royal Navy fun safe water based training is the defining activity of the the vikings. The proficiency syllabus bases its training emphasis on leadership, afloat activities and many other fun and adventurous activities.

In addition to weekends camp there are lots of other challenging and rewarding courses to attend and delivered throughout the year, many of these leading to nationally recognised qualifications.

As well as the afloat activities, cadets can learn and develop leadership skills, first aid, rigging, pioneering and there is even bushcraft courses for those budding Bear Gryls and Ray Mears amongst you.

Where possible the courses follow the National Governing Body such as British Canoe Union for paddle sports and First Aid Awards.

Semaphore is a method of visual signaling and communication, usually by means of flags or lights. This was predominantly used before the invention of the telegraph, semaphore signaling from high towers or ships was used to transmit messages between distant points. This skill develops and challenges your thought process communication skills and co-ordination all at the same time.

Learning water safety and how to paddle and move the kayak safely on inland waterways takes time and effort but it also has multiple benefits such as it can improve your aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility.

however, lets not forget that it is great fun and an excelent way of being introduced to a new sport.

Cooking & Stewarding

We start at the very basics, food hygiene and safety (accredited training) an together we go on a journey of food identification preparation and cookery. the different levels of our cooking and stewarding training culimantes with a real time event such as aproviding a family dinner for parents and staff or a fine dining event for a local community group.

Parade and Ceremonial

You will learn how to march and be part of a team. This important subject allows you to gain a better understanding of how you fit in and operate as part of a team. It is also excellent for teaching self-discipline and for developing a sense of pride.

Drill is the term used to describe a formal parade where you are able to move quickly in formation from one place to another. This may sound easy but when there is more than one person, marching, turning and saluting at the same time can be pretty difficult to master.

You will learn how to form into a squad, then progress to turning and saluting at a halt. Once you have mastered these move separately we put them all together, marching, moving, turning and saluting on the march.
